With 15 years of creative experience (and over a decade deep in graphic design) Christine Rena started Āhua Creative Lab to uplift small businesses and not-for-profits.
Ko te uri o Ngāpuhi, māmā of two, slightly chaotic but wildly capable, I live in Tāmaki Makaurau where I was raised, travelling up to Te Tai Tokerau when I can.
At Āhua Creative Lab, we are committed to running a conscious, low-impact studio. We minimise waste, favour sustainable tools and suppliers, and prioritise digital solutions that reduce our environmental footprint.
This includes the use of AI as the energy consumption required to train and run these systems comes at a significant cost to our Papatūānuku. A cost that is way to high for us to ignore.

AI is trained on art and mahi fed to it without permission from the artists, it doesn't factor in copyright laws leading to possible legal action. AI also poorly represents Māori culture often having completely incorrect tā moko, features and dress.
From a creative perspective it generates generic, bland and boring logos in formats that no signwriter or professional printer will accept.
